While I agree with the argument in favor of legalization, the larger point you make is brilliant. By opening up to crowdsourcing you can genuinely take advantage of great ideas. I have always believed that even the world’s biggest idiot can have 1 good idea during his lifetime. By tapping into those ideas we can all benefit.

For sure – tracking back to the source and killing it there. My suggestion is part of an integrated approach (to fit with what they do now) – just that these things take time to squash versus little time for a new network to spring up.

Legalising would drop the margins and in turn the motivation but as you say arises a whole new array of problems.

The dealers have done this to an extend with drug mules – relatively innocent folk who are co-opted to bring in the drugs on planes.

By increasing the number of people and the variability of the profiles of those people bringing in drugs the drug lords can spread their risk – after all the margins are pretty good at that level.

However the big way to bring in drugs is in bulk – through freight, and the best way to stop that is through good old fashioned police work – following the trail back to the source. Start with the street dealers and work your way up from there.

By far the best way to deal with the issue is to remove the motivation – legalising and taxing the various drugs, using some of the tax proceeds to provide support to the abusers.
