Further your 'read lots' suggestion, I think people need to become totally immersed in the environment and networks and sources of information and inspiration that relate to their passions. Reading is the best place to start.Start with a blog, read it, follow the links on that blog, go to the websites of people who are commenting on those blogs, find out what those people are reading, find out what they do, how they came to do it.
