{"id":4959,"date":"2015-07-09T10:01:44","date_gmt":"2015-07-09T14:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.local\/?p=4959"},"modified":"2015-07-09T10:01:44","modified_gmt":"2015-07-09T14:01:44","slug":"a-difference-in-culture-the-cost-of-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.local\/a-difference-in-culture-the-cost-of-time\/","title":{"rendered":"A difference in culture, the cost of time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reflecting on my <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.local\/time\/\">Time post<\/a> from 2011, \u00a0one thing I&#8217;ve noticed in terms of cultural differences between the US and New Zealand is how time cost is viewed.<\/p>\n<p>For private companies\u00a0in the US if they can speed up time to a goal with money, they&#8217;ll do that.<\/p>\n<p>In NZ it&#8217;s different people wait a little longer. Two sides of the coin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You might infer that time is less valuable in NZ, but that&#8217;s not the case, it&#8217;s just different approaches to business.<\/p>\n<p>The opportunity cost is less as the competitive landscape isn&#8217;t as deep. In the US, you have direct competitors, then indirect competitors who can launch in to your space overnight, you&#8217;re not fighting on 2-3\u00a0fronts, you&#8217;re fighting on a dozen.<\/p>\n<p>Underpinning this the pay off is a lot larger, if you can make that move before others, you get a jump on the market.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve found it quite curious and insightful, so thought I&#8217;d share for those I know on either side of the Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reflecting on my Time post from 2011, \u00a0one thing I&#8217;ve noticed in terms of cultural differences between the US and New Zealand is how time cost is viewed.
